Program News

The past year has been an eventful one for Nordic Studies. This fall, Helga Luthers assumed the duties of Program Head, and we welcomed Merete Leonhardt-Lupa to our program as Instructor of Swedish language. We are very fortunate to have Merete stepping in for Dr. Ursula Lindqvist, who is on leave this academic year. Nordic Studies can boast of robust growth this past year from 28 minors to 40; we graduated seven students total this past academic year – a record number for Nordic Studies – and we have added a new core course to our curriculum, “Contemporary Nordic Society and Culture,” which is also the program’s first study abroad course.

Nordic Club News and Activities

The Nordic Club has been active as always, hosting social hours for the Nordic community as well as Kubb games for anyone to join in. In addition, the Club organized a Nordic Market Day in the spring semester. The event was a great success, featuring song and dance performances, informative and activity booths, as well as delicious fresh-baked waffles for all! We are especially grateful for the participation of community members who generously donated both time and talent.

Nordic Film Series

During the spring semester, the Nordic Film Series organized weekly screenings of contemporary Nordic films. This semester, the screenings will be a biweekly mixture of classic masterpieces and more contemporary hits. If you would like to receive updates about the Film Series or other Nordic activities, please email Dr. Helga Luthers at luthers@colorado.edu, and ask to be added to the Nordic Studies email list. All screenings are free and open to the public. Please check the website at http://www.colorado.edu/germslav/nordic/sfs.htm.
