Study Abroad Program

This past summer 14 students, most of them Russian majors and minors, spent six weeks
in the Russian cultural capital studying Russian language and culture at St. Petersburg
State University. One of the participants, Doug Griffith, Russian major, compiled a
student survival guide to St. Petersburg. Here are the excerpts from his guide:
Congratulations on your decision to study in St. Petersburg during the cool, white
nights of summer. An incredible experience awaits as you try new forms of
transportation, taste all kinds of different foods and enjoy the amazing night life this northern Russian city has to offer.
Keep a metro map handy and count how many stops you need to travel, as you may
not always hear the announced arrivals. During rush hour it is also a good idea to
get up and start moving towards the exit before the train actually arrives. You may
need to push a little in order to exit before the door closes for departure to the next
station
