Fredrik Gregorius

Fredrik Gregorius is a visiting Professor and Fulbright Scholar from Linkoping, Sweden. His PhD from 2009 in the history of religion was about the development of modern Heathenism in Sweden in the 21st century and how Old Norse religion was reinterpreted to address contemporary questions about identity and ethics. A major focus on his research has been on the reception of religion and history in the creation of identities. Between 2012 to 2014 he conducted a postdoc project on Dispensationalist American Evangelical Churches in Texas, funded by the Swedish Research Council and conducted through Penn State University. Since 2020 he is part of the project Back to Blood: Pursuing a Future from the Norse Past, funded by the Norwegian Research Council and a collaboration between Linköping University and Stavanger University. The project looks at how Old Norse religion and symbol are being used in Scandinavia in music, religion, museums, computer games and how it relates to questions about ethnicity, environmentalism, and the reception of history. Apart from the reception of Old Norse religion Gregorius has also published and done research on Evangelical Christianity, Esotericism, Satanism, Afrocentricity, Santa Muerte and African diaspora religions.
